FAQs

What is an educational therapist?

Educational therapists work with clients who face learning difficulties, differences, and disabilities. I work with clients one-on-one virtually, sometimes ensuring their support in an existing school or course and others working independently of any program to progress in certain areas of focus. Educational therapists provide a very wide variety of services, but you can click here to see the specific ones offered by The Learning Mind.

What is the role of parents in their child’s educational therapy journey?

Parents are actively involved in their child's educational therapy through regular meetings. The frequency of these meetings are determined on a case-by-case basis. In these meetings, parents will be updated on their child's progress and have the chance to ask any questions or raise any concerns.

How long will my child need educational therapy?

My approach to therapy is not oriented around specific goals and outcomes. Instead, I take an adaptive approach to educational therapy with the hope of building learner's confidence and executive function skills in their area of focus. This leaves the duration of treatment up to ongoing discussion. However, if you have a specific time period in mind going into treatment, that can be accommodated. Click here to learn more about the Learning Mind approach to educational therapy.

Is educational therapy covered by insurance?

I do not accept insurance.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept electronic payments and checks or cash via mail.

What is the Orton-Gillingham Approach?

I am certified in both Level 1 and Level 2 of the Orton-Gillingham Approach, a highly respected, research-based method designed to help children who struggle with reading, spelling, and writing—especially those with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences.

  • Level 1 Certification means I’ve been trained to deliver structured, multi-sensory reading instruction that breaks language down into manageable pieces. I work one-on-one with students, using personalized lessons that build strong foundational skills in phonics, decoding, and spelling.

  • Level 2 Certification reflects advanced training that allows me to work with more complex learning needs. This includes older students, children who require a more intensive approach, and those who need targeted support in vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. I am trained to assess what’s working, adjust in real time, and ensure each lesson meets your child’s specific needs.
